Sock tops
I am meant to be going bush for a night soon, and of course, I’ll need to wear my boots. They are actually my sons boots they wore when they were 11…and they are 20 now. They have help up bloody well! (I have twin sons).
Anyway, I like shorter socks, mostly coz I wear them indoors to keep my tooties warm. Some have lost length in the leg part due to washing, and while this is ok at home, it isn’t very pleasant in boots, so I decided to try making ‘boot cuffs’ to tuck in.
I found these (LOVE the buttons!) and these in crochet. Plus these ones that are knitted. I like the idea, but I have a funny feeling the cuffs themselves would get eaten, and separate from the top of my sock, which would be just as annoying.
For the fun of it, I grabbed the tapestry yarn and a 2mm hook and added a row of sc to a sock after working out I need a good 7cm on them. I did two rows of sc, then hunted for a sc type pattern in the book. I found a lacy looking shell type stitch and ended up making that. The stitch count was 4+2 which worked well for the sock I started with. The lacy part doesn’t have to keep me warm or do much at all. So long as it fits over my foot, and doesn’t strange my ankle, its all good.
I would have used the left overs from the actual socks, but I don’t want that to shrink and felt (it was real wool, lanolinised even) If the tapestry yarn cuffs don’t work, I can undo them, coz I don’t plan to weave the ends in.
Back to it.
- crocheting the first row
- doesnt look like the pattern
- looks ok
- two lace rows
